Must be easy to spell. Avoid using weird spellings or combination of letters. The domain would be hard to remember. The chance of your traffic going off somewhere else is pretty darn good.
Make it easy to remember. This one is pretty obvious. Making your name easy to remember makes it remarkable. You are easy to find and to make remarks about.
Eye catching. If your domain name catches attention when people are searching they will drop by. Make it a good description of what you are about. Iphonesales would be better than Ronsiphonesales. Ronssales does not work because it does not describe what you are about.
Avoid symbols. Using a hyphen or numbers can be confusing and send your people in the wrong direction. It is easy to forget a hyphen and hard to remember to use a 4 instead of four. In fact if I just absolutely had to use a number, I would register both versions and forward one domain name to the main site. This way you can get all of the traffic you deserve.
Choose the right extension. A .com extension is best. When people are trying to find a website they will type in .com first. Most people do not pay attention to an extension when they are looking for a website so they just enter in .com. The search engines naturally default to a .com when organic searches are made.
Use keywords as your domain name. Having a domain name that is a keyword or keyword phrase is ideal. This gives you a better chance to be indexed high in the search engines.
Do your best to meet all of these qualities and you will do well in choosing a good domain name.
