How to Choose a SEO Friendly Domain Name?

Choosing a SEO friendly domain name puts you on the right track to achieve success in the virtual world. Search engine rankings receive a remarkable boost from domain names that focus largely on keywords targeting your core business objectives. These SEO friendly domain names help you in enticing your target audience, increasing your online conversions and opening multiple revenue streams for your online enterprise.Have a glance at the simple steps that you can follow to have a good SEO friendly domain name:

Insert Keywords in the domain name: Keywords trigger the success of domain names by playing an active role in making the entire SEO process run at a higher speed and at a better Click Through Rate (CTR). These keyword-rich domain names serve as sign post and build strong website-niche relationship. Also if the URL of the website is constituted by keywords, Google indexes it fast and the website theme also appears uniform throughout.

Choose a top level domain (TLD) name: TLDs continue to rule the Internet business, especially .com (the most extensively used TLD). Since it is the most popular domain extension, you must try to get your domain name ending with .com as it would make your users recall it fast. Although there are instances of many successful websites with other domain extensions too, yet .com happens to be the most preferred choice of netizens across the globe.

Insert SEO friendly Inbound Links: Links are highly recommended since these play a considerable role in SEO. The keyword-rich domain names give way to SEO friendly inbound links as many netizens try to connect with your website using your domain name. If your website is devoid of SEO friendly inbound links, the search engines draw an inference that your website has no relevant content. However, the inbound links that you acquire must be quality links as poor links can adversely affect your SEO endeavors. Hence, stay away from ‘Black Hat SEO’.

Easy-to-remember domain names: A domain name must be short and easy to remember so that the users recall it fast and there is heavy web traffic to your website. There would be increased scope of conversion and online sales for your business. Avoid tricky and complicated domain names as they might work against the success of your online business.

Avoid hyphenated domain names: It’s recommended that you must avoid hyphenated domain names as these give rise to a large number of complications and users tend to forget the positioning of hyphens in the domain name very easily. The results can be very detrimental since a large number of your visitors can be misled to other similar named websites, all without any hyphens.

Attract great Type-In Traffic: Some of the users have a tendency to type the keyword directly into their URL bar and add a ‘.com’ extension to the same. Hence, I’d advise you to select a domain name that comprises of an exact keyword that matches your business as the chances of higher web traffic get a remarkable boost.

Choose a good Web Host: Another way of getting good domain name ideas is to select a good web host that also offers domain name registration. Currently, there are many good web hosting companies operating in the market such as LimeDomains, Network Solutions, Hostgator etc. wherein you can type in your domain name ideas and check for the availability of domain names. If those are available, you get the suggestions of domain names using which you can make your final choice of a domain name.

Once you’ve made your choice and get a domain name registered from a web host, it gets circulated through the World Wide Web within hours. However, choose for the longest term available as search engines do take into consideration the period for which you own a domain name.

With all the tips handy, you’re all set to choose a SEO friendly domain name for your online business.

The World of Domaining

Ok a new way to buy real estate has emerged and it’s called domaining, yes domaining. The address of a website is called a domain name and you can not have a website unless you have a domain name. Imagine a vacant block of land that still has an address. An example is ‘number one smith street’ and although there is no house on it this block of land still has an address ‘number one smith street.’ So when people decide to start a website, they will need to register a domain name. Quite often the name they desire is already registered by some one else and more often than not it is by a domainer!

Which is ok because it is legal to register a domain name to be sold at a later date. Some people register domain names as their investment portfolio instead of other types of investments such as the stock market or land. It is believed by domainers that the information highway is the most important resource of available information and entertainment that can be used by people, so a good website address is considered an asset and worth money. There are even websites dedicated to the buying selling and auctioning of domain names such as sedo.com and afternic.com and there are many forums that discuss the value of a domain name and the future of the internet, a few that come to mind are namepros.com and dnf.com, although some are specific to a certain country and the countries website extension, one example is in Australia they use the extension of .com.au and there is a domain forum called dntrade.com.au (dn is short for domain name)

The recent sale of toys.com made headlines recently because it sold for over $5 million us dollars to Toys R Us and guess what? It only cost $10. a year to register!! yes you do not own a domain name so to speak, but rather register it each year as required. A generic term such as dogs or perhaps pets is considered a great name because of the direct navigation they get, (direct navigation is when someone types in that exact website address instead of a google search) so a domain name that has a generic term is considered gold because of the natural traffic it will get. The most common extension is .com because it was the one first used when the internet started and is used world wide along side cctlds. What is a cctld? that is called the country code top level domain name, example is in England they use .co.uk and in China they use .cn So a country code is also an asset because it lets you know that the site you are looking at is local and within easy reach if you need to contact them. There is a website called dnjournal.com that reports on this industry each week and lists the sales of domain names each week. If you go to dnjournal.com at the top left hand side of the front page you will see just under where it says home (in yellow) domain sales is just underneath it, click on it and you will see the weekly sales chart …… it’s amazing and a true eye opener.

Although you would be better off joining a forum and learning the tricks of the trade before you go and spend all your hard earned cash on a domain name that is no good? Namepros.com has a section called market place and its where you can buy sell and auction names, they also have a section for newbies (new domainers) its a great place to ask questions and learn about domain names! and the domain name industry, this also has information and links to the world of domaining, check it out! you will learn alot quickly, also where you register a name is called a domain name registrar godaddy.com is the most popular, but there is many such as dynadot.com and moniker.com. Most are reasonalbe in their pricing, there is also enom.tv who offer many different extensions. So do check them out and join one if you are interested in becoming a domainer. Why am I telling you this??? Well the world is changing and one day you might need your own domain name to start a website for yourself or your business.

There are a lot of parking companies available for you to choose from. So how do you know which is the best one for you to start out with? One of my internet marketing strategies is to look at the overall picture of any tool and not choose one over another simply because it out performs in one area. With that in mind, here are some points that you should look at to make the best decision for you.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are a ton of companies out there and they are very competitive…meaning they are competing for your business! This is a really, really good thing and you end up being the big winner here.

User friendliness

Is the site easy to get around for you? Especially when you are new, this may be the biggest single criteria you use for choosing the parking company. This is an easy way to make some money, so keep it easy and focus on buying good domains, not trying to figure out a particular company’s site!

Payout

What rate do they pay for the ads. Each company will tell you what they pay…some will be higher than others. Actually this isn’t the biggest criteria, but it is good to know. For some reason sometimes a site will actually make me more money with one parking company even though it has a lower payout…so don’t make this the only criteria you use.

Their payout history

This is more important in my mind than the payout itself. Does the company have a good reputation for paying? How often do they pay, things like that.

Reports and records

I really like to see where my traffic is coming from, so I like a company that gives me good reports. If I can see if the traffic is coming from the US or internationally, it might help me to make decisions about that domain later.

I definitely want reports that clearly show me how many visitors I’ve had, what the click through rates are and how much they pay me per click.

Once I have some basic data about my visitors, about the traffic to the site, I can then “shop around” and try other parking companies if I want.

So when you are searching, don’t stress too much about picking “the right one”…there really isn’t one that is perfect or the one and only right one. You will probably end up moving your domains around or if you have lots of them you may have some parked with one company and others parked elsewhere. But to start I definitely suggest you start with one. Get yourself a baseline, see how it works out and then you can switch around if you want.
